Blackwell Bear Travels
Hello Blue Class,
I hope you are enjoying the half term break after a very busy first half term in Year 4. You've all settled into Blue Class really well, have worked with determination and enthusiasm and it's been lovely to share in some memorable learning with you such as our Memory Cafe, an autumnal woodland walk with our Red Class friends and making and playing Autumn board games.
After half term, our new topic is Blackwell Bear Travels. He's going to take us on an exciting journey into the continent of Africa where we'll explore some key geographical features and compare life in a village in Tanzania to life in Blackwell. In addition, we'll investigate some African foods and you'll have the opportunity to design and make some of your own tasty African treats. Also, we'll develop our R.E. knowledge and skills by learning about some common religions in Africa. All of this learning will support our work towards an 'Our World Celebration' project. I'll explain more about this exciting project when we return to school.
Enjoy the rest of your half term break. Have plenty of rest and play but don't forget to keep reading and practising those times tables. We'll be revisiting the 3s and 4s when we return.
I'm looking forward to seeing you on Monday and hopefully we'll be Rugby World Cup Champions by then!

The end of our first fascinating topic
What a lovely morning we've had today! You set up and ran the Memory Cafe so well and it was lovely to watch you enjoying chatting to our visitors, sharing your learning and being fascinated by some of their tales! Thank you to those who made scones (they went down a treat) and to all of the visitors who came.
It was lovely to see so many of your grown ups too on Wednesday evening and I could tell they were impressed by the learning you have done so far this year. There's lots more to come!
This topic has now come to an end and we now begin a new topic of 'Autumn'. We're heading off on an autumnal walk on Monday so remember to wear jogging bottoms and a hooded waterproof coat. We'll definitely be wearing our wellies (please bring them in if they are not already in school) as I know after all this rain we'll be squelching in a bit of mud! In light of this, please bring in spare bottoms and socks just in case we get a bit wet.
Have a good weekend and I'll see you all on Monday.

A great first week!
Well done Blue Class for a successful and very enjoyable first week back. Your enthusiasm for learning has been a pleasure to see and I know we are going to have a very happy year together. Our new topic 'Britain at War' has certainly been a hit and we've learnt such a lot already from Betty's story, exploring the school's log books to see how the children of Blackwell School were affected during the wars, handling and wearing some real military kit and uniform and we particularly enjoyed our trip to Rosa Lodge which ended with blackberry and potato picking just like the children of Blackwell over 100 years ago did. What a busy few days!
Have a good rest this weekend and I'll look forward to seeing you again on Monday ready for another fun-filled week of learning.
Love Miss Townsend x
