Budding scientists! We have been very busy in Yellow Class becoming plant scientists. We have
been investigating the conditions Mung Beans need in order to grow and
also investigating how water travels through a plant by putting a white
flower into food colouring and water. This didn’t work as well as we hoped
so it would be great if you could have a go over the holiday and take a
photo to show everyone when we come back after half term. We have learnt lots of
new words in science such as photosynthesis, germination, seed dispersal
and transportation. It would be great if you could learn even more to do
with the life cycle of a flowering plant or challenge your grown ups to
explain the ones you know. Have a lovely half term break Yellow Class!
P.S There will be some activities on the school wall to keep your
brains active during the week but have a good rest too.
We had a lovely time this morning at the cinema listening to ten pieces of classical music and learning how the composers had created certain effects. Have a chat with your grown ups at home about which pieces you particularly liked and why. See if you can download any with your grown ups so you can enjoy listening to them again. The ten pieces were:
- Mars - Holst
- Hall of the Mountain King - Grieg
- A Night on the Bare Mountain - Mussorgsky
- A Short Ride in a Fast Machine - John Adams
- Storm - Benjamin Britten
- Symphony No. 5 - Beethoven
- Horn Concerto - Mozart
- Zadok the Priest - Handel
- Connect It - Anna Meredith
- The Firebird Suite - Stravinsky
We had a good time today learning the skills you will need for making your crumbles on Wednesday. There was good peeling and chopping of those apples! Have a think tonight about the filling you will choose to make and the style of topping you liked the best because tomorrow you will need to design your recipe.

We start our new topic 'Autumn' next week and to kick start it we are off on an Autumn woodland walk on Monday 29th September. You can come to school in jogging bottoms and please ensure you have a warm waterproof coat and wellies in school.
What a lovely time we had at Blakesley Hall today in the glorious sunshine! You were all excellent historians, using different historical sources to find out about the lives of Tom, Frank and May Merry and how they were affected by WWI. You all worked well in teams, co-operating maturely and your behaviour was super. It was a delight to take you all. Thank you. Remember to tell your grown ups all about your day and what you learned.
Just a reminder for trip slips to be returned to school by tomorrow - Friday 19th September.
Dear Yellow Class,
I have thoroughly enjoyed my year with you all particularly going on our school trip to the Black Country Museum and raising lots of money for Hillfields Animal Sanctuary. You have all worked really hard and been a pleasure to teach. I am extremely proud of you all. Thank you all so much for my lovely gifts, they were very much appreciated.
Enjoy your summer holidays, stay safe, rest well and have plenty of fun.
All my love,
Mrs Yeomans xxx
Hello Yellow Class,
Please could you have a look at home for empty egg boxes, washing up liquid bottles, margerine tubs and yogurt pots and bring them into school for Tuesday to help us with our DT project.
See you on Monday,
Just a reminder to all Year 3s that you need to bring two packed lunches for tomorrow and plenty to drink as you are at the Artrix all day and then have a performance in the evening. You will not need to bring your book bag or swimming kit to school.
Hello Yellow Class,
I would just like to say well done to all of you for taking part in today's sports morning. You were all fantastic and showed great sportsmanship towards each other.
Don't forget that you can wear your own clothes tomorrow for bringing in a bottle.
Hello Yellow Class,
This week is National School Sports Week so please ensure you have your PE kit, a sun hat, sun cream and a water bottle in school all week. Remember, Thursday 26th June is Sports Day where we warmly welcome your families to cheer you down the race track and to support each team event at our 'World Cup' themed event where you will all be competing for a country - Spain, Australia, Brazil and Japan.
Well done to the Year 2 children who participated in the OAA event at Crown Meadow First School with me last week, we had a fantastic time.

Hello Yellow Class Families,
I would just like to say a big thank you to parents for all of your support today with our cake sale. The children worked extremely hard to plan and make these tasty treats and had lots of fun too! As you know, we were holding this fundraising event to raise money for Hillfields Animal Sanctuary and I am extremely proud to say that the children managed to raise a fantastic £62!
Well done Yellow Class!
Hello Year 2 Families,
Just a quick reminder about our orienteering morning tomorrow. Please can you make sure that the children have their PE kits, a packed lunch, a snack, sun hat and water bottles.
I would just like to confirm that the fundraising event will be held on Wednesday 18th at 3.15pm and not on the Thursday as previously stated. For a little bit of fun, we are also inviting the children to bring in a decorated head band or animal ears to wear to the event for a small donation of £1.
Dear Yellow Class Families,
I would just like to remind you about our fundraising event next Wednesday 18th at 3.15pm here in Yellow Class. The children will be designing and making treats in DT and then selling them to raise money for Hillfields Animal Sanctuary here in Blackwell.
I look forward to seeing you all and hopefully raising lots of money for a good cause. If you would like to find out more about Hillfields Animal Sanctuary please visit www.hillfields-animal-sanctuary.com.
Hello Yellow Class,
