Hello Red Class,
This week, we explored ‘Remembrance’. We spent the week listening to war songs, such as, “It’s a Long Way to Tipperary,” drawing poppies in Write Dance and finding out a little bit about the war in History such as how they sent messages to each other. We used the story “Five Minutes Peace” to explore the meaning of peace. We sequenced story events, asked questions about the story and sorted phrases into true or false. We used lots of reading skills.
In our number work, we explored 6 7, 8, 9 and 10 and how we can make these numbers in different ways. For example, we played a dice and egg box game where the first dice was always 5 and then the second dice determined the number (5 + 3= 8). We made the numbers in our egg boxes to check. We’ve also been working on our counting back to make it just as strong as our counting on!
During Forest School, we learnt how to tie stopper knots. The children then applied their knowledge to make dens. We also went on a scavenger hunt to find something in the forest that made a sound. The children then played their ‘instruments’ as part of a class band.
In Phonics, we learnt the sound, action and song for j, v and w. Every day, we play games to recall previously taught letter sounds and keywords. Our new keywords for this half term will be: and, my, you, her, they, all, are. Every week, we will introduce one or two new words to the children as well as practising previously taught keywords. You will find new keyword cards on the reverse of the class newsletter which was given out today.
Enjoy the weekend Red Class and get ready for our new topic, “Special Places Around the World”. If you’ve ever visited Spain and you have any photos or artefacts, please send them into school next week.
