Pirates

Hello Children,

I hope you are enjoying your half term break. I am looking forward to seeing you next week when we start our 'Pirates' topic. Remember you can come to school on Monday dressed as a pirate. I will put some pirate activities on the School Wall to help get your brains into 'Pirate' mode!  Yo ho ho!

Blackwell Film Festival

What a super day! Well done to all of you for your excellent acting, music playing and enthusiasm. Your grown ups had great big smiles on their faces as they watched your performance. I'm looking forward to reading your own versions of the Pied Piper that you have written this weekend.

Have a nice weekend and I'll see you on Monday ready to start a new topic.

Retell

Hello Blue Class,

We will be recording our Pied Piper retell this week so remember to practise your part at home so that you will be able to perform with confidence and enjoyment. There will be some 'Oscars' presented on Friday!

See you tomorrow.

Boxes and kitchen rolls!

Dear Parents,

Next week, the children in Blue Class will be making trophies for our 'Oscars' ceremony as part of our Blackwell Film Festival project. I would be grateful if you could start saving small boxes, kitchen roll holders etc for the children to use to make their trophies. Please send them into school next week.

Many thanks,

Miss Townsend

6 times table

Hello Blue Class,

Last half term you worked hard learning your 3 and 4 times tables and corresponding division facts. This half term we are going to be learning the 6 times table and corresponding division facts. We will keep revisiting the 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10 times tables so that we don't forget them!

Learning them at home as well as at school will help you significantly. Here are some ideas for you.

  1. First, practise counting in 6s.
  2. Then, write the 6 times table out and see if you notice any patterns that might help you.
  3. After that, identify those that you already know by heart.
  4. Next, choose 2 tricky times table facts a day to keep going over until you have memorised them.
If you practise regularly you'll soon know them by heart. Once you know your 6 times table you'll be able to recall the corresponding division facts too.

Ask your parents to play games with you which involve recalling the 6 times table and corresponding division facts. I'll put some games on the School Wall which will help you too.

Keep working hard. It will be worth it!

Wendy and Peter Pan

Hello Blue Class,

I hope you all enjoyed the trip to see 'Wendy and Peter Pan'. It was a great way to start our new topic and we can use lots of ideas from the performance to help with our own class film. Your excellent behaviour at the theatre was once again recognised by the staff from the RSC who said they would love to have us back again! Well done to you all.

See you on Monday.

Theatre Trip

Just a reminder that all children need to bring a packed lunch with them tomorrow (preferably in a plastic bag) with a couple of drinks.

Thank you.

Happy New Year

Hello Blue Class,

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas. 2014 is now here and we have lots of exciting things to look forward to this year. When we return to school we have a new topic 'Blackwell Film Festival' which involves a trip to the theatre to see 'Wendy and Peter Pan.' I've read some of the reviews and I think it's going to be a great show. '...full of surprise...', '...spectacular effects...' and '... the results are magical...' are just a few comments from people who have been to see it.  Before you come back to school have a go at an activity on the School Wall linked to the trip to help get yourself warmed up and ready for exciting learning ahead!

See you on Tuesday.

4 times table

Hello Blue Class,

You have worked very hard to learn your 3 times table over the past 3 weeks. We are now moving on to learn the 4 times table and corresponding division facts. We will keep revisiting the 2, 3, 5 and 10 times tables so that we don't forget them!

Learning them at home is a great help. Here are some ideas for you.

  1. First, practise counting in 4s.
  2. Then, write the 4 times table out and see if you notice any patterns that might help you.
  3. After that, identify those that you already know by heart.
  4. Next, choose 2 tricky times table facts a day to keep going over until you have memorised them.

If you practise regularly you'll soon know them by heart. Once you know your 4 times table you'll be able to recall the corresponding division facts too.

Ask your parents to play games with you which involve recalling the 4 times table and corresponding division facts.

Keep working hard. It will be worth it!

Extra Layers

Now that the colder weather is here please ensure you have extra warm layers with you on the days you go to Forest School, particularly an extra pair of thick socks. Many of you are bringing in hats, scarves and gloves. Please check that they have your name in to avoid things getting lost.

Thank you.

Times tables

Hello children,

You have been learning your 3 times table and corresponding division facts really well. Well done! We will spend one more week on this times table before moving onto the 4 times table. So, next week keep practising those that are still a bit tricky e.g. 7 x 3 and all of the corresponding division facts i.e. 27 ÷ 3. If you know all of them by heart then start to challenge yourself by answering questions such as 40 x 3 and 210 ÷ 3.

Happy learning!

Chickens

Dear Children,

Jasmine, Dylan and Isobel, who are chicken carers, have chosen the names for our new chickens.

Thank you to everyone who submitted ideas. They were all great.

We have chosen:

1. Black Beauty for the black chicken (named by Erin and Jake);
2. Coco for the brown, speckled chicken (named by Darcey); and
3. Yvette for the brown chicken (named by Lilia).

Yvette has the same name as a chicken in the book 'Mr Chicken goes to Paris' and Lilia met Leigh Hobbs the author of the book and her inspiration for the name came from this book.

We hope you enjoy meeting the chickens soon!
