Blue Class News
Remember that we are rehearsing at Lickey Hills Primary School on Wednesday (26.11.14) so you need to wear a warm coat, gloves and a hat as we are walking there.
We will have a later lunch when we get back.
We look forward to showing one family member what we have learnt in the evening at Lickey Hills and we need to be dropped off at 6-6.15pm. Remember to wear dark trousers and a brightly coloured plain t shirt.

We have a very busy and exciting week ahead of us.
1. Bhangra performance at Lickey Hills Primary School on Wednesday evening (6.30pm)
2. Blue Class family assembly on Thursday (8.35am)
3. Jewish festival in the hall on Friday (9.00am - 11.00am)
So this weekend it would be a good idea to practise your story retell, learn any assembly lines you may have and if you have any time left getting dancing or drumming!
See you on Monday.

P.S. Remember to wear black leggings or trousers and a plain brightly coloured t-shirt on Wednesday evening.
We enjoy doing lots of P.E. and this takes place both inside and out. Please ensure your child has jogging bottoms in their P.E. bag (it's too cold outside now for the children to be wearing shorts) and both pumps and trainers. Pumps are used for indoor P.E. and trainers for outdoors as they have better grip and will get muddy. Please provide a carrier bag for your child to put their trainers in.
I hope you are all enjoying your half term break and having plenty of rest after a very busy first half term. Well done for working so hard and learning lots about WW1 and Autumn. I thoroughly enjoyed our end of war street party and your autumn scrap books look great and are ready for you to enjoy in our class library.
When we return to school we have a new topic 'Blackwell Bear Travels', where we will be learning about Egypt and Judaism, India and bangra dancing and lots more. We don't just have one project to work on either... you'll discover more on Monday!
Keep reading over the next few days (I'm looking forward to reading more of your book reviews) and there are new activities waiting for you on the School Wall.
See you next week,

We had a lovely time this morning at the cinema listening to ten pieces of classical music and learning how the composers had created certain effects. Have a chat with your grown ups at home about which pieces you particularly liked and why. See if you can download any with your grown ups so you can enjoy listening to them again. The ten pieces were:
- Mars - Holst
- Hall of the Mountain King - Grieg
- A Night on the Bare Mountain - Mussorgsky
- A Short Ride in a Fast Machine - John Adams
- Storm - Benjamin Britten
- Symphony No. 5 - Beethoven
- Horn Concerto - Mozart
- Zadok the Priest - Handel
- Connect It - Anna Meredith
- The Firebird Suite - Stravinsky
We've had a lovely afternoon today, stepping back in time nearly one hundred years, and having a street party to celebrate the end of the First World War. Singing and story telling started the celebrations off. The children looked great in their costumes and had a fun time taking part in tug-of-war, football matches or quietly enjoying their knitting dolls. Lastly, we tucked into our jam sandwiches (made by the children themselves), cakes (made with the blackberries the children picked) and blackberry juice. A lovely time was had by all!
We start our new topic 'Autumn' next week and to kick start it we are off on an Autumn woodland walk on Monday 29th September. You can come to school in jogging bottoms and please ensure you have a warm waterproof coat and wellies in school.
What a lovely time we had at Blakesley Hall today in the glorious sunshine! You were all excellent historians, using different historical sources to find out about the lives of Tom, Frank and May Merry and how they were affected by WWI. You all worked well in teams, co-operating maturely and your behaviour was super. It was a delight to take you all. Thank you. Remember to tell your grown ups all about your day and what you learned.
See you in the morning.

Getting stuck into a good book is great! You can get lost in another world, let your imagination run wild, learn amazing things about the world we live in and not only does your reading get better but your writing does too. We are enjoying sharing our class books during story time but I would like you to tell me about some other books that would be worth reading. On the School Wall I have posted an activity where you can write a short book review of books that you read. We will find time during the week to have a look at some of your posts so that you may then get more ideas of books you would like to read in the future.
Happy reading everyone!
Just a reminder for trip slips to be returned to school by tomorrow - Friday 19th September.
Well done for having such a great first week back at school and in Blue Class. You have all worked very hard, with great enthusiasm. I have just finished reading all of your fantastic letters you have written from soldiers in the trenches and they showed me just how much you have learned this week about WW1. Next week we will be learning how Blackwell was affected by the war. I know we are going to have a happy and exciting year from all of the kind, smiley and motivated children I have seen this week. Well done.
Have a lovely weekend. Keep enjoying your reading and choosing your first piece of homework. I will put an activity on the School Wall. If you are unsure how to use it, don't worry, you will be shown how to during the next few weeks. There will be plenty of stars, points and shields up for grabs all year!
See you on Monday.

Pop in and let us know how you are getting on if you pass by.
All the very best.

Thank you to all of Blue Class for such a lovely last day of term and for all your kind gifts and messages. You have all had a brilliant year showing great enthusiasm and excellent attitudes to learning throughout.
Year 4s... What can I say? You performed brilliantly during your breakfast this morning. I will miss you all tremendously but I wish you all the very best at middle school. Please come back and see us and tell us how you are getting on.
Have a good rest over the summer and I look forward to seeing the Year 3s in September.
Lots of love

On Tuesday you will be taking home all of your work, P.E. bags and any other belongings. Please bring one or two large carrier bags to school with you to help you carry all of it home.
The tradition is that you have your P.E. top signed on the last day. Please check with your grown ups that you are allowed and bring in a marker pen to school to get it signed.

Just a reminder about our Year 4 leavers' breakfast next Tuesday where we will be celebrating your child's time at Blackwell First School. It will start at 8.40 and will last approximately an hour.
We look forward to seeing you there.
